School Energy Winners Announced
March 2009
The winners of Sibelco UK’s schools energy challenge have been announced. The competition, run in association with the Carbon Trust and E-On, called on schools throughout the UK to come up with innovative ideas to cut fuel bills and reduce their environmental footprint.
The standard of submissions was exceptionally high and the judges were impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment shown by all entrants to further improving the school’s energy efficiency. The three regional winners were Blackpool Primary School (Devon), Alsager Highfields (Cheshire) and Middleton Primary School (Norfolk). The overall national winners were Warmsworth Primary School in Yorkshire.
Sibelco UK launched the competition to mark a major milestone in its own energy reduction programme. Over the past five years the company has slashed carbon emissions by more than 25,000 tonnes, recently achieving the prestigious new Carbon Trust Standard. Sibelco has worked closely with the Carbon Trust in achieving the savings to date and both continue to focus on future reduction projects.
