Christmas lights given a lift thanks to quarry company

December 2007

Christmas preparations in Sandbach gathered momentum this week as the town’s lights were installed with the help of local quarry company, Sibelco UK. The company responded to the Town Council’s call for assistance with the donation of a lifting platform and operator to help put up the lights in good time for the big switch-on at the end of the month.

The equipment supported a team of 12 volunteers who give up their time each year to provide festive lighting for Sandbach. The lights were installed on Sunday despite some pretty harsh weather conditions.

Dennis Robinson, Sandbach Town Crier, Councillor and fellow member of the Christmas Lights Committee said: “We would like to thank Sibelco for their support this year and hope it will continue well into the future. A hard core of volunteers have been putting up the lights for nearly 20 years on a very small budget. This is the largest support we have had from any local business during this time and long may it continue. A big thank you from all the Christmas lights committee and people of Sandbach.”

Sibelco’s Community Relations Officer, Amanda Roberts, commented: “We were more than happy to help out with the lights. We have always enjoyed strong links with Sandbach and we’ll continue assisting with more projects like this in the future to help further enhance the town.”

The lights will be switched on at a special event beginning at 6pm on Friday 30th November. Music will be provided by Sandbach Boys School Christmas brass band with carols from Sandbach Ladies Choir who will also be joined by Father Christmas.
