Clay firm helps provide children with a safer path to playing fields

Sibelco has helped a local primary school provide a safer route for its children to nearby playing fields. The company has donated special high-visibility safety vests for children and teachers at Hennock Community Primary School in Newton Abbot to wear when walking through the village.
“We don’t have our own playing field at the school so our children regularly have to walk to neighbouring Teign Village,” explained Gill Bird, administrator at Hennock Primary School. “This involves passing through an area with no speed restrictions so we want to be as visible as possible to traffic. The vests will undoubtedly offer an extra degree of safety for the children.”
The school approached Sibelco after hearing that the company had successfully supported a similar initiative at neighbouring Chudleigh Knighton School. “High-visibility clothing is essential in the quarry industry and our workers wear vests like these every day to stay safe,” commented Sibelco’s Operations Manager, Mark Pitman. “The clothing we donated to Chudleigh Knighton School has proved popular so we were delighted to help out when approached by Hennock.”
There are three classes at Hennock Community Primary School with a total of 36 children together with a successful pre-school which re-opened in June last year.
