Quarry company creates recipe for success

June 2007

Volunteers and staff at Alton Castle in Staffordshire are cooking up a treat thanks to a donation of kitchen equipment from local quarrying company, Sibelco UK.

The team at Alton Castle, which organises residential activity courses for children, welcome more than 6000 nine to thirteen year olds each year, over a third of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds. Through a range of outdoor and indoor activities, the Centre helps children to raise self-esteem, form friendships and realise their potential.

“As a charitable organisation we depend heavily on peoples’ generosity and goodwill to keep the Castle running,” explained Centre Manager, Iain Gordon. “We obviously have lots of hungry mouths to feed and the kitchen equipment donated by Sibelco is a huge help.”

Included in the donation were two cookers and refrigerators as well as steel work tables and a chilled display unit.
